Welcome to Blogmas Day 3! It is time for your third day of Christmas content and today it is something delicious! I promised I would fill your bellies from now until Christmas Ever and it starts today!
One of my favourite parts of this time of year is the company we keep. It is a time of everyone putting effort into relationships with their family and friends. We all make the effort to see each other and bath in some seasonal joy. As December means many of our houses are a revolving door, I thought I would share with you a little something that every house needs at this time of year! GINGERBREAD.
For someone who is totally obsessed with this time of year, I have never actually made a gingerbread house. I always love the look of them and promise I will make myself one, but never get around to it. It just seems like suuuuuuch an effort. Anyway I do, however, like eating gingerbread in other forms.
Today I am sharing with you the easiest gingerbread in the world! It is so easy because I don’t even bake it. Yeah that is my secret. I buy it and then decorate it to give it the homey touch. Trust me, you still get the same amount of praise and nothing is ever burnt!
I actually bought these gingerbread snaps from Ikea this year. They are so fragrant and have a nice thin base. You can buy them in many shapes, but this year I just went for the curved edges as I knew I wanted to decorate them in different ways.
I mixed some soft icing sugar, with a knob of butter and some boiling water. Once I had the consistency that I liked, I transferred some of the icing into a smaller bowl and added some food colouring. From there all I did was scoop it into a zip lock bag, cut a nibble off one of the corners and got piping!
I decided on presents and trees this year and I think they turned out great! The trick is to try and get rid of the air bubbles in your piping and then you will get a thin and continuous consistency.
I do like that they are a little ‘rough’ looking. It adds to the homemade vibe that you know I might be missing for one reason or another… shhh. I just think that they are the best thing to have sitting out when you have guests popping over. They will think your the best hostess! Gingerbread also lasts really well too so you don’t have to worry about them going stale!
If you make some gingerbread I would love to see it. Tag me on Instagram!
